Mr Ko Wong was born in a small village located in Guangzhou, China. In his early days, he was always well respected by his colleagues as he was honest, hardworking and a fast learner. However, he felt that there was still something missing. He had the desire to establish his own business, an outlet where he could contribute his very own set of values, hardwork and innovative ideas to.
That dream finally took form in 1977, after the birth of Mr Wong's second son.
In February of that year, Universal Plastics was born. It was initially operated by both Mr Wong and his wife, Rebecca Leung. It started in a small premise at Yuen Long, Hong Kong with most employees being housewives who earned their living by sewing shower caps or operating simple gloves stamping machines.
Mr Wong's ability shone through by his ability to not only master the arts of operating plastic machineries, but by also making his own machines!! Up to the present day, Mr Wong's creative machines are still being used by his factory in Dongguan, China
His amazing creative talents and his "can do" attitude have also enabled him to diversify into many other plastic products.
Business in the early days were mostly done locally with Hong Kong trading companies. The Company started to make its presence known overseas when Mr Wong's eldest son, with an excellent command of the English language, joined the Company in 1997. Mr Wong's second son joined shortly after in 1998.
Both sons (who both possess a degree in business) have, together with their dad, built Universal Plastics to the empire it is today.
