Degradable / Compostable
What are "Compostables"?
With our range of BIO products you can rest assured that you and your brand is contributing to keeping our planet a cleaner place! Made from 100% cornstarch they are the most environmentally friendly choice on the market!
Our BIO products are a environmentally friendly, resource efficient and sustainable alternative to conventional plastics. Unlike conventional plastics which are derived from petrochemicals, our BIO products are made from 100% cornstarch. They are reusable, water resistant, breathable, food safe and will decompose CO2 neutrally.
Our BIO range of products is certified in accordance to the European Standard EN 13432 and bare the “OK Compost” quality seal. Thus they are 100% biodegradable & compostable.
All our BIO products are made from cornstarch and not mixed with other materials. The cornstarch is obtained from renewable and GMO-free grown corn in Europe, this in turn is processed into resins.
The resins we used are sourced from Italian company who's a pioneer in the field of bio-plastics with over 800 patents accredited to them.
We offer an overall Eco-friendly package for you and your business. From the raw materials to the ink, master batch ink for dying the material, cords and snap buttons, all are “OK Compost” certified and are 100% biodegradable & compostable.
The “OK Compost” quality seal was issued to us by the globally recognized AIB Vinçotte institute of Belgium (TÜV AUSTRIA Group as of 1st January 2018).
The testing procedure and requirements for obtaining the ‘OK Compost” quality seal is based on the internationally recognized European Standard EN 13432.
All printing on our BIO products uses water based inks instead of solvent based inks. Cords and drawstrings are cotton and snap buttons are made from BIO resins just like the rest of our BIO line of products.
Thus not only are the materials in compliance with EN 13432 standards, but every aspect of the whole product is biodegradable and compostable.
What does 100% biodegradable and compostable mean?
A material that is 100% biodegradable and compostable essentially means that the material will decompose CO2 neutrally into its naturally occurring, renewable and non-toxic substances of H2O & CO2.
The degradation process can either take place in an industrial composting facility for a faster process of 8 to 12 weeks, or in a home compost, with the help of microorganisms, enzymes and heat.
Regardless of which compost method is chosen, the fundamental requirement of certification for both “OK Compost HOME” and “OK Compost INDUSTRIAL” is that 90% of the item must be broken down in 180 days of being introduced to a compost environment.
Furthermore the degradation of the BIO resins in the ocean has been tested and confirmed in accordance to the European Commission initiated “Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) pilot program. The time needed to break down in the ocean is between 35 to 39 weeks.
Compostable products can be stored up to 18 months in a dry environment, protected from direct sunlight and at appropriate storage temperatures. After this time a natural passive and gradual decomposition process begins.
The standards for industrial composting (EN13432 and ASTM D6400) require the material to convert to CO2 gas within 180 days.
EN 13432 requires biodegradation of 90% of the materials in a lab within 90 days.
The ASTM 6400 standard is the regulatory framework for the United States.
Our Compostable products holds the "OK Compost - Industrial" certificate issued by TUV Austria!
All our compostable products are certified by TUV in accordance to their "OK Compost"Composting standards .
Traditional plastics don't degrade over time. Oxo-degradable plastics are conventional plastics with a special additive which allows the material to degrade over time.
Certified "Hong Kong Green Label Scheme" holder.
The Hong Kong Green Label Scheme (HKGLS) is an independent, non-profit-making and voluntary scheme for the certification of environmentally preferable products launched in December 2000 by Green Council (GC). The scheme sets environmental standards and awards its "Green Label" to products that are qualified regarding their environment attributes and/or performance. As with all ecolabelling schemes, the aim is to encourage manufacturers to supply products with good environmental performance and provide a convenient means for consumers to recognize products that are more environmentally responsible, thus promoting a more sustainable pattern of consumption.
Key criteria contained in these standards also require compliance with applicable legislation.
