Compostable Industrial Labels

Packaging or products with an industrial compostable label are guaranteed to be compostable in industrial composting plants. This applies to all ingredients, inks and additives. The only point of reference for the certification scheme is the harmonized EN 13432: 2000 standard: In any case, any product bearing the compostable logo complies with the requirements of the EU Packaging Directive (94/62/EEC).

Compostable Home Labels

Due to the relatively small volumes of waste involved, the temperatures inside garden compost piles are significantly lower than in industrial composting environments and are less stable. That’s why composting in the garden is a more difficult, slow-paced process.

OK Compost/Biocompost is not based on one standard, but several!

The requirements of the OK composting program were developed in 2003 and have never been questioned since, and these requirements have become the basis for drafting several standards, such as:

Australia: AS 5810 (2010) – Biodegradable plastics – Biodegradable plastics suitable for home composting 

France: NF T 51800 (2015) – Plastics – Specifications for plastics suitable for domestic composting 

Europe: prEN 17427 (2020) – Packaging – Requirements and test schemes for transport bags suitable for disposal in well managed home composting units

The product fully complies with the import standards of the United States, the Middle East, the European Union and other countries.
